This summer, Bitossi Ceramiche was hosted at Selfridges’ Silver House in London with a pop-up running from 28 July to 23 August. A selection of historic and recent pieces from the manufactory was presented in a small pavilion designed specifically for the department store space.

The project imagined an intimate, almost domestic setting, evoking the atmosphere of a ceramics studio more abstractly. The use of a semi-transparent material wrapped the space, creating a suspended, almost dreamlike effect that framed the pieces on display without overpowering them.

The selection brought together iconic pieces from the Rimini Blu collection — including the horse, cat, bird and dachshund — alongside works by Ettore Sottsass, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Rooms Studio, Christoph Radl and many other successful projects: a dialogue between the archive and contemporary production.

Bitossi Ceramiche was founded in 1921 in Montelupo Fiorentino. From the 1950s onwards, under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi, the manufactory collaborated with designers including Ettore Sottsass, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Formafantasma, Max Lamb and Muller Van Severen. In 2021, to mark its centenary, the Fondazione Vittoriano Bitossi opened its doors. The Selfridges pop-up offered an opportunity to bring that history to London.
